Improving I-26 from Little Mountain to Irmo
Construction Timeline
The Midlands Connection Project is in the final design and construction phase. Construction began in Spring 2020 and is anticipated for completion in December 2024. Midlands Connection is part of SCDOT's Strategic 10-Year Plan.
Construction Schedule
Construction Segment 3
The third construction segment will:
- Widen the I-26 Roadway from approximately Mile Marker 91 to Mile Marker 85
- Replace three overpass bridges along Peak Street, Holy Trinity Church Road, and Parr Road
- Modify the Exit 85 Interchange
Began Spring 2020
Construction Segment 2
The second construction segment will:
- Widen the I-26 Roadway from approximately Mile Marker 97 to Mile Marker 91
- Replace two overpass bridges along Mt. Vernon Church Road and Old Hilton Road
- Modify the Exit 91 Interchange
- Upgrade the Weight Station near mile marker 94
Began Fall 2021* *Other than some early asphalt repair work
Construction Segment 1
The first construction segment will:
- Widen the I-26 Roadway from approximately Mile Marker 101 to Mile Marker 97
- Replace two overpass bridges along Koon Road and Shady Grove Road
- Modify the Exit 97 Interchange
