Current Updates
Temporary Ramp Closure Added September 2024
SCDOT announces that the I-26 WB loop ramp at Exit 91A will be temporarily closed for the next phase of construction beginning September 16, 2024, weather permitting. The Exit 91B ramp will remain open for westbound traffic.
Drivers exiting at Exit 91B will reach a four-way stop at the intersection with Columbia Avenue, where they can:
- Turn left toward Chapin
- Turn right toward US-176
- Continue straight onto Dan Comalander Road
SCDOT urges drivers to exercise caution while traveling through work zones.
Ongoing Traffic Shifts Added March 2023
SCDOT announces traffic shifts on both I-26 Eastbound and I-26 Westbound from mile marker 85 to mile marker 101. All travel lanes will be maintained, but will be shifted to accommodate construction work as needed. Traffic shifts will occur throughout the project area until major project construction completion in 2024. SCDOT reminds the public to use caution when driving through work zones.
Ellett Road Closure Added October 2021
Ellett Road between Columbia Avenue and Brentwood Court will be closed from October 18, 2021 to December 2024 for Midlands Connection project construction. SCDOT remind the public to please use caution while driving through work zones.
60mph Speed Limit Added October 2020
SCDOT announces a 60mph speed limit on I-26 from mile-marker 101 to mile-marker 85. The speed limit will begin on November 4, 2020 and last for the duration of Midlands Connection project construction. Midlands Connection is a part of SCDOT Strategic 10-Year Plan. SCDOT reminds the public to please use caution while driving through work zones.
I-26 Night-Time Lane Closures Added October 2020
SCDOT announces night time lane closures on I-26 Eastbound and Westbound from mile marker 85 to mile marker 101. Lane closures will occur between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays and between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. on weekends. The lane closures will last throughout the construction duration for the project. Closures will be dependent on weather. SCDOT reminds the public to please use caution while driving through work zones.
